Music Notes
On Sunday, December 4, a service of Nine Lessons and Carols will take place in the church at 5:00 p.m. This service was drawn up by Edward White Benson, Bishop of Truro, in 1880 for use in the then temporary wooden cathedral, with four hundred people attending at 10:00 p.m. The service was later adapted for use by King’s College, Cambridge, who made it popular through their annual television broadcast, which continues to this day. Here at St. John’s, there will be an opportunity to hear music by Harold Darke, John Tavener, John Gardner and William Mathias.
Our Annual Christmas Concert will take place on Sunday, December 18, again at 5:00 p.m. This concert, begun as a one-time event in 2007, has very much become a part of the St. John’s Christmas tradition, and draws a large crowd. There will be carols of the season for audience and choir, and music by Francis Poulenc, Andrew Carter and Peter Warlock. Both the service of Lessons and Carols and the Christmas Concert will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall, to which all are warmly invited.

tries. This effort will allow parishioners a range of giving options that align with their budget and/or causes closest to their heart. Gifts should be returned to the church by Sunday, December 4
. Let’s make this second year of the St. John’s Giving Tree a huge success!
