The Circle Celebrates Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 6
Please join us for a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, one of our favorite Circle traditions. The party begins at 6:30 p.m. with Happy Hour and the return of the Margarita Machine at the home of Erin and Dennis Carr (3116 W. Lawn Avenue). Later on, we will move two houses down to the home of Betsy and Drew Graham (3122 W. Lawn Avenue) for dinner and dessert.
We are excited to announce that dinner will feature a taco bar from O Cocina and Flights, the newly opened Mexican restaurant owned by parishioner Bear Galavis.
Please bring all of your food and beverage contributions to the Carrs’, and we will make sure they get to the right place. Encourage your parish friends to attend as all are welcome! Contact Betsy Graham with questions.

Wednesday Nights In St. John’s
The Wednesday Nights group continues the study Believing Jesus: A Journey Through the Book of Acts.
In Believing Jesus, an 8 session DVD study, Lisa Harper retraces the steps of the Apostles in the Book of Acts, while throwing in a few of her own crazy adventures along the way. Rarely are the terms hilarious storyteller and theological scholar used in the same sentence, much less used to describe the same person but then again, Lisa Harper is anything but stereotypical! She is a gifted communicator, whose style combines sound scriptural exposition with easy-to-relate to anecdotes and comedic wit.
The Wednesday Nights group invites all parishioners and friends to join them each week in the Parish Hall. Bring a dish to share and an open heart and mind for discussion. Contact Paul and Winkie Game at pgamefla@aol.com for more details.

Are you creative, artistic, or good with computers and graphic design? Do you like teaching, working with children, and sharing God’s word? Or are you skilled in building, planting, or singing? We all have different gifts and we need yours!! Our prayer is that every parishioner says “yes” and serves in some way.
The 2016 blue Ministry Handbooks will be available on the name tag tables this Sunday for folks who want to learn more about St. John’s ministries before the 15th.
May 15 will be a casual Sunday, so dust off your cowboy boots, saddle up and come explore the many ways to get involved at St. John’s. We will have information tables and opportunities to ask questions, step up, and sign up! There is a place for you to use your gifts and to praise God for the gifts He has given us.

2016 Choir Benefit Concert: Sunday, May 15
The Annual Benefit Concert on Sunday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. takes as its theme this year ‘Music for Royal Occasions.’ England’s Queen Elizabeth II, as well as becoming the longest reigning monarch this year, also celebrates her ninetieth birthday this month. This affords us a wonderful opportunity to present so many pieces associated with Royal occasions down the centuries, and will include, of course, Hubert Parry’s ever-popular anthem ‘I was glad’, together with William Mathias’ ‘Let the people praise thee, O God’, composed for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and “we wait for thy loving kindness, O God’ of Sir William McKie, composed for the wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth to Philip Mountbatten in 1947. There will also be the opportunity for the audience to join in the singing of some of the great hymns associated with these occasions, including ‘All people that on earth do dwell’, to the arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Simon Morley will conduct the choir, with Kevin Page at the organ. They will be joined by brass and percussion of the Florida Orchestra. A reception, to which all are warmly invited, follows in the Parish Hall.
St. John’s 16th Annual In-Gathering for Alpha House
While Mom will get lots of “Luvs” and “Huggies” on her special day, remember that others need to be pampered too. We can all help the mothers and babies at Alpha House by bringing “Wish List” items on (or before) Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8. Collection bags with detailed wish lists are also available at the reception desk outside of the parish offices.
The needs of Alpha House mothers are a little different this year. While all donations of diapers, wipes, toiletries, etc. are still very much needed and appreciated, there is a serious shortage of items required for new mothers transitioning into apartment living. These items include sets of plates, pots, pans, flatware, cups and glasses, kitchen and bath towels, kitchen utensils, shower curtains, all-purpose cleaners, and scrub brushes. Cash and very gently used item donations are also appreciated.
All donations will be collected in the courtyard prior to all three services on Mother’s Day or please drop items at the parish offices prior to May 8.
****Volunteers are needed to receive collection bags prior to all three services on Mother’s Day. If you can lend a hand, please call Ruth Giordano at 254.4332 or email tampagio@aol.com.

New Meals on Wheels Program WOW Launches with Hurricane Prep Pack Day, St. John’s Help Needed
Meals On Wheels of Tampa will launch a new program this month called Water On Wheels (WOW). WOW was developed by the Meals On Wheels of Tampa High School Leadership Board (HSLB) to encourage healthy hydration by providing reusable water tumblers, water flavor packets, and educational materials to all of the seniors and homebound served by Meals On Wheels of Tampa.
On Saturday, May 21, community volunteers will deliver WOW in addition to the Hurricane Preparedness Packs. The reusable tumblers were purchased with funds raised by the HSLB’s Student Music Fest this past month, hosted by Tampa Preparatory School. The event was a success- more than 150 guests gathered on the lawn to enjoy musical performances by local students. Water flavor packets were donated by Brittany Magrini and her USF Communications Class.
MOW is requesting that St. John’s parishioners contribute one-gallon sized jugs of drinking water for Meals on Wheels recipients for Hurricane Preparedness Packs. Leave in the parish offices by Monday, May 16, and one of our volunteers will pick them up and take to MOW.
Director of Children’s Ministries and Parish Life Sought
With Miranda HQ’s upcoming ordination in the Methodist Church, St. John’s has a part-time opportunity (20 hours per week) available for a Director of Children’s Ministries and Parish Life. The Director will facilitate the operation of our children’s Sunday School as well as parish life programs that offer a safe, friendly, welcoming environment where all may experience the love of God and be spiritually nurtured. These programs are crucial to spiritual formation offered by St. John’s, and we encourage referrals of individuals who are a strong match for the role. For a job description or more information, contact Fr. Connelly at cconnelly@104.237.132.142.
