CWBS is studying Paul’s letter to the Romans on Tuesdays from 6:45 to 8:00 a.m. in the Peterson Room at the School’s Middle Division campus. After conversation and a light breakfast (fruit & some type of bread) that members take turns bringing, the study starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends shortly before 8:00 a.m.; a few people may leave early if they have to go to work.

The Wednesday Nights group continues the study Believing Jesus: A Journey Through the Book of Acts.
In Believing Jesus, an 8 session DVD study, Lisa Harper retraces the steps of the Apostles in the Book of Acts,while throwing in a few of her own crazy adventures along the way. Rarely are the terms hilarious storyteller and theological scholar used in the same sentence, much less used to describe the same person but then again, Lisa Harper is anything but stereotypical! She is a gifted communicator, whose style combines sound scriptural exposition with easy-to-relate to anecdotes and comedic wit.

2016 Choir Benefit Concert: Sunday, May 15
The Annual Benefit Concert on Sunday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. takes as its theme this year ‘Music for Royal Occasions.’ England’s Queen Elizabeth II, as well as becoming the longest reigning monarch this year, also celebrates her ninetieth birthday this month. This affords us a wonderful opportunity to present so many pieces associated with Royal occasions down the centuries, and will include, of course, Hubert Parry’s ever-popular anthem ‘I was glad’, together with William Mathias’ ‘Let the people praise thee, O God’, composed for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and “we wait for thy loving kindness, O God’ of Sir William McKie, composed for the wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth to Philip Mountbatten in 1947. There will also be the opportunity for the audience to join in the singing of some of the great hymns associated with these occasions, including ‘All people that on earth do dwell’, to the arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Simon Morley will conduct the choir, with Kevin Page at the organ. They will be joined by brass and percussion of the Florida Orchestra. A reception, to which all are warmly invited, follows in the Parish Hall.
Women’s Mid Morning Bible Study Wraps Up Year with Lovely Lunch
A lovely luncheon at the home of Sally Wiley was the end of the 2015-2016 year for the Mid Morning Women’s Bible Study. The group closed with an inspiring session with Fr. Baker, and enjoyed fellowship and delicious food at the Wiley’s Palma Ceia home.

Tampa Deanery in the Dominican Republic
The Tampa Deanery’s 2016 project is to build the first floor of a new two-story church and school building for the San Timoteo mission in the community of Nizao on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic, about 30 miles west of Santo Domingo. Lodging will be at the new center adjacent to San Matias (similar to the Kellogg Center in San Pedro de Macorís).

DaySpring Youth Mission Camp
July 10 through 15, DaySpring Conference Center, Parrish
Campers will go in teams to mission sites each day from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Mission work will include working with children of migrant workers in the Wimauma area through RCMA, experiencing homeless ministries and feeding the hungry through Turning Points in Bradenton, as well as the opportunity for a group to go to Marco Island to be part of Camp Able, a camp for people with “diversabilities.” Along with the mission visits will be all kinds of fun traditional camp activities like canoeing, games, arts and crafts, sports, as well as evening programs about mission, worship, and meeting new friends. This experience will make a difference not only in young people’s lives, but in their communities when they return.

In-Town Mission Week: Urban Immersion Program
July 25 through 29, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Metropolitan Ministries
Metropolitan Ministries’ Urban Immersion initiative provides youth an unique opportunity to be fully and closely engaged with their community. Youth will be exposed to true homelessness and poverty while learning ways to help individually, as a church, and as a community. Each day will include education, lunch, and four service hours. The cost is $50 per week, which includes a t-shirt and lunch daily.
The experience will include:
*face-to-face ministry with homeless and at-risk clients
*off-campus with local partners
*for families in need.
No Service for Families with Young Children This Month
Please note that the service for families with young children that typically takes place in the Parish Hall on the last Sunday of the month will not be held on Sunday, May 29. We will resume after the summer with a service on Sunday, August 28.

Save the Date for St. John’s Annual Canoe Trip
Greetings! Mark your calendar for St John’s upcoming Parish Canoe Trip on June 11. We will be gathering at Canoe Escape for a half day of fun on Tampa’s beautiful and winding Hillsborough River!
Discounted cost is $43 per canoe which accommodates up to 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children. Youth 13+ may canoe together without accompanying adult. Single person kayaks are also available.
We’ll meet at Canoe Escape, located at 12702 US 301, Thonotosassa 33592, at 9:00 a.m.: park and pay at the office, then shuttle out to Sargeant’s Park for our 4.5 mile journey downriver, finishing at Morris Bridge Park about noon — so please pack a lunch.
Children will have “Critter Sightings” worksheets to check off along the way – expect to see turtles, osprey, blue herons, and sunbathing gators. Most of the trek is canopied but be sure to bring your hats and sunblock.

New Meals on Wheels Program WOW Launches with Hurricane Prep Pack Day, St. John’s Help Needed
Meals On Wheels of Tampa will launch a new program this month called Water On Wheels (WOW). WOW was developed by the Meals On Wheels of Tampa High School Leadership Board (HSLB) to encourage healthy hydration by providing reusable water tumblers, water flavor packets, and educational materials to all of the seniors and homebound served by Meals On Wheels of Tampa.
On Saturday, May 21, community volunteers will deliver WOW in addition to the Hurricane Preparedness Packs. The reusable tumblers were purchased with funds raised by the HSLB’s Student Music Fest this past month, hosted by Tampa Preparatory School. The event was a success- more than 150 guests gathered on the lawn to enjoy musical performances by local students. Water flavor packets were donated by Brittany Magrini and her USF Communications Class.
MOW is requesting that St. John’s parishioners contribute one-gallon sized jugs of drinking water for Meals on Wheels recipients for Hurricane Preparedness Packs. Leave in the parish offices by Monday, May 16, and one of our volunteers will pick them up and take to MOW.
