Wednesday Nights In St. John’s
Beginning Wednesday, June 22, the Wednesday NIghts group will study “Half Truths.” In this five-session video Bible study, Adam Hamilton explores the truth of some familiar phrases. They sound Christian, like something you might find in the Bible They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. In his engaging style. Adam breaks down these common sayings using Scripture and story with practical applications.

Ackerman Ordination
A joyful event with our Bishop and many of the clergy from the diocese took place on Saturday, as Chase Ackerman, St. John’s new Curate and Director of Family Ministries was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests.
A Note from the Rector: New Associate Rector Appointed
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Janet A. Tunnell to the position of Associate Rector of St. John’s Parish, succeeding the late Mother Alice Sadler. In this position, Janet will be assisting me in all areas of parish ministry but will be focusing primarily on our ministries of pastoral care and outreach.
Janet was born and raised Catholic in Aurora, Illinois, and moved to Tampa to attend USF in 1995. Her first career was as abiologist for the State of Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg where she worked mostly as a lab manager, but spent many summer days out on the water. Before heading to seminary,and her husband Mikeboth active members at St. Anne of Grace in Seminole.returned to St. Pete after Janet graduated from Seminary of the Southwest in Austin in May 2013. Since then, she has been the Associate Rector at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Snell Isle in St. Petersburg.
Janet has been married for sixteen years – no kids, two cats. Her husband, Mike, is a native Floridian, cradle Episcopalian, a diehard UM fan, and works as a real estate photographer. They both love to travel, they love the outdoors, andenjoy music, good food, and celebrating life. They feel blessed and filled with excitement as they begin this new chapter of life at St. John’s.
Janet will begin her work here in St. John’s later this summer. I know you will join me in keeping her in your prayers and wishing her all good things in this new season of service to Jesus Christ as a Priest in his Church.

DaySpring Youth Mission Camp
July 10 through 15, DaySpring Conference Center, Parrish
Campers will go in teams to mission sites each day from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Mission work will include working with children of migrant workers in the Wimauma area through RCMA, experiencing homeless ministries and feeding the hungry through Turning Points in Bradenton, as well as the opportunity for a group to go to Marco Island to be part of Camp Able, a camp for people with “diversabilities.” Along with the mission visits will be all kinds of fun traditional camp activities like canoeing, games, arts and crafts, sports, as well as evening programs about mission, worship, and meeting new friends. This experience will make a difference not only in young people’s lives, but in their communities when they return.

In-Town Mission Week: Urban Immersion Program
July 25 through 29, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Metropolitan Ministries
Metropolitan Ministries’ Urban Immersion initiative provides youth an unique opportunity to be fully and closely engaged with their community. Youth will be exposed to true homelessness and poverty while learning ways to help individually, as a church, and as a community. Each day will include education, lunch, and four service hours. The cost is $50 per week, which includes a t-shirt and lunch daily.
The experience will include:
*face-to-face ministry with homeless and at-risk clients
*off-campus with local partners
*for families in need.
