Children’s Ministry Events and News
Bring the Kids and Leave the Cooking to Us Next Wednesday!
St. John’s will be hosting an evening Lenten series from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in Lent. The topic for this year is Harold Kushner’s book, “When Bad Things Happen to Good People,” and will be led by the Rev. Everett Walk of Sarasota. For adults, the evening will offer a discussion of spirituality as it pertains to coping with crisis. In an effort to welcome families to this fellowship opportunity, we also created a special Lenten series for children to partake in simultaneously, which will include seasonally relevant discussion topics, games, and activities in the Lowry Room during the adult discussion in the Parish Hall. We hope you will come and enjoy dinner as a family, and then embrace nourishment for souls of all ages in the programs after dinner.
RSVP via this link so we can ensure we have enough food to go around!

VBS Volunteers Required to Reopen Registration
June 19 through 23
Due to the high volume of registrations in the two weeks since we opened VBS sign-ups, we have had to move to a waitlist and pause all future registrations pending full-time commitments from more adults in our community to ensure safety with appropriate child/adult ratios. We have jobs for all interests and abilities. Please see below for the most critical needs currently, to see if any of these might be a good fit for you! The more volunteers we have, the more kids we can welcome to VBS. Youth volunteers are sought as well and will receive service hour credit for their participation.

SOCCER COACH NEEDED
While strong athleticism is not required, some experience coaching or playing soccer is a big plus. All lead coaches will be given a VBS playbook specific to their sport to guide them in the themes and drills. Without a designated soccer coach, we will need to cancel the soccer unit of VBS.

HUDDLE COACHES NEEDED
This is a great role for youth volunteers who expect to attend for the entire week. Each Huddle Coach will team up with a group of 6 to 8 children, joining them for their sport each day and then leading them in the Bible Lesson during the “huddles” in between sport sessions. Huddle Coaches will receive a Huddle Playbook with all the information they need to lead a productive and successful huddle group with their kids.

MUSIC COACH NEEDED
This person will learn the theme songs for VBS and teach them to the group during our daily rallies. You don’t need to be a professional musician, just someone who loves sharing the word of the Lord and doesn’t mind singing in front of a group.

SNACK COACH(ES) NEEDED
Could be one person for the week or a few people divided up between the days to drop off a healthy snack for our VBS participants. This volunteer does not need to stay for the entirety of VBS.

AFTERCARE HELP NEEDED
We are hoping to find a few adults to join us from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on some or all days of the week to assist with the aftercare supervision which will include movie screenings, crafts, playground time, and other fun activities after the formal VBS program concludes at noon.
