It seems that what John’s Jesus is telling us is that flesh alone, that is, matter alone, stuff alone…is not the way into relationship and unitive living with Jesus.
On the Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost, Fr. Robinson preaches about being an active Christian and an active member of your church. The mana story teaches us that blessings stored soon spoil.
In multiplying food and creating this experience of enough, this experience of abundance, Jesus is showing the nature of the kingdom of God.
What we need to know is that God’s compassion, his loving energy toward the needy, propels all our Apostolic activities.
May we, like John, constantly speak the truth, boldly rebuke vice, and patiently suffer for the truth’s sake.
Today is an important reminder that joy does not take a season off, no matter what the circumstances.
If we really want to ‘be there’, we have to ‘get there’.
And mostly what he learns is that there is a divine center in himself. There is something in himself that has the power to help him overcome his own foolishness… He learns who he is.
