John the Baptist stands in a long line of prophets. Their goal in the scripture is not to predict the future but to speak the truth.
God’s goal is not to cast us out into darkness but to gather us all to him in eternity.
And what I say unto you I say to all: watch.
But Mary’s “Yes” demonstrates that joy comes when we give ourselves over to the divine purpose.
Jesus wants to give them concrete proof that he is real. That even his resurrection body can eat and digest food.
When it comes to the meaning of ‘power’, the Christmas story says to us ‘attraversiamo’.
Through Him, all the people God loves… will share in a peace that represents wholeness of person and unity with others.
An end is so close, but it is just not there yet.
And giving thanks is central to the practice of Christianity. As we celebrate our own abundance, we also recognize our role as stewards of God’s bounty, and we remember that we must be always mindful of the needs of others.
